Homeless Man Returns Engagement Ring Dropped Into His Cup & Shocks the World (VIDEO)

engagement ringAs an absent-minded sort who tends to put things for "safekeeping" in particular spots and then completely forget where those safe spots are, it's alarmingly easy for me to imagine the panic Sarah Darling of Kansas City must have felt when she realized her engagement ring was missing. See, Darling's rings were "bothering" her (you know how sometimes your finger just feels like it needs to breathe or something?), so she slipped them off temporarily and put them in her change purse ... for "safekeeping." If you sense an ironic turn of events on the way, points for you! Because yes, later that day, Darling happened to walk by a homeless man named Billy Ray Harris. Being a kind-hearted gal, she emptied the contents of her ... change purse ... into his cup.

Whoops. Not surprisingly, Darling was "incredibly upset" when she figured out where her ring was, so she went back to find Billy Ray Harris. Though she wasn't really expecting to get her ring back. I mean, let's be honest for a moment -- if you were living on the street and somebody dropped their diamond engagement ring into your spare change cup, what would you do? Here's what I'd do: Run to the pawn shop! No takesies backsies!!

But Harris is a better person than I am, because he didn't hock that ring. He held onto it, figuring its owner would be back:

"My grandfather was a reverend," he said. "He raised me from the time I was 6 months old and thank the good Lord, it's a blessing, but I do still have some character," he said.

So when Darling showed up, Harris returned the ring. At which point, presumably, Darling's faith in humanity was restored.

I mean, isn't yours? Just HEARING this story? And wait til you see this:

If only more people had as much character as Billy Ray Harris.

Would you have returned the ring if you were this homeless man?
