Colts Cheerleader to Shave Her Head Bald for Beautiful Reason

Megan M. Colts CheerleaderLet's face it, cheerleaders are known for a few things -- namely their pom poms and being hot. So the thought of one them out there on the field shaking it bald, doesn't exactly fit the usual image, but that's just what we might see later this month when the Indianapolis Colts play the Buffalo Bills.

The reason is absolutely beautiful too as it's part of a show of support for the Colts head coach, Chuck Pagano, who's battling leukemia. It started when 25 or so of the team's football players shaved their heads earlier this month to show their solidarity with him, which was sweet, but not all that shocking. When the school's mascot, Blue, challenged the cheerleaders, however, that's when things got interesting.

Via Twitter, Blue set it up -- if he could raise $10,000 for leukemia research before the November 25 game, would one cheerleader shave her head?

I imagine there was some panic among the ranks as to who would actually part with her long lovely locks, but eventually one brave soul -- Megan M. stepped forward to say she was the lady for the job. She agreed on Twitter to do it, then signed some papers to make it all legal ... or something like that.

Good for her. While it's just hair, I have to admit I don't know if I could do it. Sure there are wigs, but my hair feels so central to who I am, as superficial as that may be. So good for her for being brave enough to do it. It's a powerful show of support, and surely a good way to help raise funds. C'mon, who doesn't want to see a bald cheerleader?

So often when loved ones and acquaintances are sick and hurting we feel helpless. A sign of support like this has got to mean so much to that coach and to everyone fighting this deadly disease. We may not have the power to cure cancer yet, but that doesn't mean we can't fight it with everything we have -- including a cheerleader's hair.

Would you ever shave your head for a cause like this?
