Twitter Hilariously Mocks CNN's Health Care Goof

cnn tweet

Remember that infamously wrong newspaper headline, "Dewey Defeats Truman"? It was Truman who had won the 1948 presidential election, not Dewey. But the Chicago Tribune, racing to get the paper out before morning, had taken a gamble -- and lost. Today, @CNN had its Dewey moment -- but on Twitter. The news outlet tweeted a big whopper regarding the Obama health care mandate.

Said @CNN, "The Supreme Court has struck down the individual mandate for health care." Nine minutes later, realizing that Dewey didn't win, it issued a mea culpa: "Correction: The Supreme Court backs all parts of President Obama's signature health care law."

Fox News got it wrong too but on TV. Which probably worked out slightly better for them.

Twitter, which would poke fun of the world ending, blew up with tweet-digs. Here are some of the best:

@travishelwig: BREAKING: Supreme Court rules CNN bad at journalism.

@sternbergh: BREAKING: NO ONE KNOWS WHAT'S GOING ON. SUPREME COURT MANDATES PERMANENT USE OF ALL-CAP TWEETS. CATS SLEEPING WITH DOGS. CORRECTION: PIGS.

@RyanNewYork: Today will also be known as the day when CNN became less reliable than Twitter.

@DamonLindelof: I am not turning off CNN until they TELL ME GORE WON FLORIDA!!!

@DrunkHulk: CNN IS AMAZING! THEY NO ONLY PROVIDE LATEST NEWS FROM AROUND WORLD! BUT LATEST NEWS FROM ALTERNATE EARTH TOO!

@whisper1111: CNN reporting that Diana Ross was the supreme's swing vote

@MattBinder: Maybe if Wolf Blitzer stopped texting Justin Bieber for JUST ONE MINUTE, CNN could have gotten this SCOTUS thing right.

Do mistakes make you lose faith in news outlets?
