Pro Ball Player Devastated After Son Arrested for Sexual Assault of a Minor

torii hunterLos Angeles Angels player Torii Hunter set a great example for other professional athletes yesterday after he chose to fly home to Texas instead of playing the day's scheduled game -- because his family needed his support.

Hunter's son Darius, who is 17-years-old, was arrested, along with another adult and three juveniles, after being investigated for sexual assault on a child. He was released on $15,000 bond, and now Torii has been placed on the restricted list for the Angels indefinitely. The team has agreed to let him take as much time as he needs to tend to his son and his personal family matters.

Choosing to leave the baseball field and fly home to Texas can't have been an easy decision for Hunter, but it's obvious that his family is definitely his number one priority. He even posted the following message to his Twitter account for fans after his departure:

This is very tough for a father. Thanks for ur prayers and support. Be Blessed everyone!

Professional athletes have such a demanding job considering how often they have to be away from home, but the majority of them are probably thrilled to get paid to do what they love for a living. However, no matter how passionate you are about your sport (or any career for that matter), putting family first is an absolute must. Loving the game and loving your kids are two entirely different things, and there should never be any competition between them -- period.

Do you think Torii Hunter did the right thing?
