President Obama Joins Instagram & Instantly Becomes Coolest Leader Ever

Before 2008, Facebook and Twitter weren't crucial tools for getting elected. But the Obama campaign changed that forever. As you'd imagine, those social media tools alone won't be enough for 2012 ... which is why they've stepped it up and joined Tumblr, Google+, and most recently, Instagram!

The first photo posted from Obama's Instagram account was of the President speaking "via videoconference to Iowa caucus-goers" yesterday night.

Ha, I love it! This must mean President Obama isn't just the "first social media president," but also the hippest president and candidate of all time. After all, Instagram is pretty much hipster America's most beloved app.

If you're not familiar with it, it's basically a way to take and edit photos with filtered effects or a "tilt-shift blur," so they look like they came out of an old album. Then like various other social media sites, you can share your pics with whoever chooses to follow you. It's like a hipper, neo-Flickr or Photobucket. It's artsy, funky, and the fact that the POTUS has embraced it as a way to document his run for re-election is nothing short of totally cool.

Personally, I dig having a president who is up on the latest technology and "it" app, who wants to continually innovate how he brings his message to the people. Obama's definitely proven he's beyond capable in that department. Hell, his campaign could probably -- and may soon be! -- introducing new technology, gadgets, and apps a la Apple/Steve Jobs. That kind of willingness to try or be the trailblazer of the next cool thing says a lot about a leader.

As for Instagram, they're over the moon about Obama joining their cult, and have said they "look forward to seeing how President Obama uses Instagram to give folks a visual sense of what happens in the everyday life of the President of the United States." Sounds like a plan to me!

Do you use Instagram? Would you follow the President's Instagram pics?
