'Best New Twitter Accounts of 2011' List Could Use a Few More Names

oldspice twitterBeing that tweeting was one of our nation's favorite pastimes this year, it's no surprise Twitter's got a starring role in many 2011 retrospective round-ups. We're looking back on the year's most audacious, the most hilarious, and the most influential tweets. Even if you're not much of a Twitter fan yourself, you've gotta give credit to those who reel in the followers like crazy. They must be doing something right!

HuffPo actually just did a list of the Best New Twitter Accounts of 2011, paying tribute to the funniest folks -- and animals -- who made their tweet debuts this year. And while they were spot-on with most, there are definitely others who deserve a shout-out, too.

For instance, they got @BronxZooCobra, otherwise known as the classic case of a missing zoo animal on Twitter. We laughed so hard when the supposedly escaped cobra started sending out its own tweets in late March. Classics included, "On top of the Empire State Building! All the people look like little mice down there. Delicious little mice." and ""Enjoying a cupcake @magnoliabakery. This is going straight to my hips. Oh, wait. I don't have hips. Yesss! #snakeonthetown." Bhahhahaha! But the Cobra wasn't alone ... A female peacock followed in its slithery steps in May, tweeting under the name @BronxZooPeacock. What can I say, I'm a fan of all the escaped zoo animals on Twitter!!

And of course they couldn't slight @Shitgirlssay! No matter how you feel about this Twitter account's sweeping generalizations about female speak, you have to admit, they've blown UP in the past couple months by tweeting expressions supposedly overused by the gentler sex. But you gotta give props to @VeganAri who recently did his own hilarious spoof, "Shit Vegans Say."

They also gave props to new celebs on Twitter @EllenBarkin and the now defunct @AlecBaldwin for their controversial and hilarious social media banter, but what about Roseanne Barr aka @TheRealRoseanne? The Internet just wouldn't be the same without her often strange, sometimes side-splitting tweets!

Last, but not least, HuffPo forgot some of the funniest brands and fictional characters tweeting this year ... like @OldSpice ("Lady-scented body wash is always what I never wanted for the holidays, I much prefer the scent of soul-crushing handsomeness.") and @DarthVader (379K+ followers can't be wrong!).

Can't wait to see what hilarity on Twitter 2012 brings!
