Bill Maher's Jesus Jokes Shouldn't Get Tim Tebow Fans Down

bill maherTim Tebow can't help but be the center of attention in all things NFL -- and even SNL -- these days. If the buzz isn't about his performance on the field, then it's about his supercharged religion that people either seem to love or hate. And when I think of someone who is always, as a rule, opposed to flashy displays of faith ... there's really only one name that comes to mind: Bill Maher.

If you've ever watched his HBO current events show, Real Time with Bill Maher and/or seen his documentary Religulous, you're well-aware that Maher identifies as an Atheist, and often teases people who are very demonstrative about their religion. That's his shtick. And given Tebow's shtick, it's no surprise Bill tweeted the following ... yes, on Christmas Eve: "Wow, Jesus just f----- #TimTebow bad! And on Xmas Eve! Somewhere in hell Satan is tebowing, saying to Hitler "Hey, Buffalo's killing them."

Offensive? To some, sure.

But to others, it's just par for the course where all things Maher are concerned. Maher's been ripping guys like Tebow for decades, and it's not like he's going to stop anytime soon.

The thing is ... if you put your big devotion out there all the time, no matter what your faith, Bill's bound to bust your chops. As lots of news sources reported, it doesn't seem like Tebow himself was shaken up by the tweet, so why should his supporters be? Surely, he doesn't need anyone to defend him from "big, bad Bill Maher."

Sure, I understand being offended, but Maher's remark is by no means worth an all-out Twitter brawl or boycott. (Not like Tebow superfans are the types to tune into Real Time anyway.) The quarterback's supporters should follow their icon's lead and just turn a blind eye to Bill, move on, stay positive. It's clear the two camps are never going to agree, but the right thing to do, especially around the holidays, is for both groups to just laugh off their differences. Because, I bet you anything, as far as Bill and Tim are concerned, it's all good.

Were you surprised by Bill Maher's tweet?
