3 Awesome Super Bowl 2012 Highlights for Non-Sports Fans

footballIf you're like me, Super Bowl Sunday is less about rooting for your favorite football team and more about trying to pretend you're not bored out of your mind at a party filled with rowdy people making lots of noise about something happening on TV that doesn't interest you at all. The best you can hope for is a killer 7-layer dip and maybe a guest bedroom where you can sneak away unnoticed for a nap.

Luckily, there are a few things even non-sports fans like us will get a kick out of (get it? HA!) during this year's Super Bowl -- besides nachos and a comfy place to crash.

Here's what you can look forward to ...

1. Awesome Commercials Always a highlight of the Super Bowl experience for faux-football fans, game day ads are among the most highly anticipated spots to run all year. Chevy will reportedly get at least 4 out of the 5 slots purchased by GM ($3 million for 30 seconds of air time); one of the commercials will be the winner of a contest that got 197 submissions from independent filmmakers in 32 countries. Preview the 35 finalists now and you could win big -- GM is offering $10,000 to the person who "shares" the most. (Pretty clever, eh?) We'll see if any of them live up to last year's big hit: The Darth Vader/Volkswagon Passat spot.

2. Madonna, Madonna, Madonna Can Madge make the biggest TV event of the year with her halftime show performance? Bet she hopes so, since she's got a movie (W.E.) coming out around the same time as the Super Bowl and an album rumored to drop in 2012. Considering she's got the Cirque du Soleil as back-up dancers, it should be quite the spectacle.

3. The Indy Zip Line Since the zip line at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver was such a huge hit, thousands of daring souls are expected to climb a 95-foot launch tower, suit up in a harness and fly 800 feet across the Super Bowl village. Should make for some very, very funny viral video, that's all I have to say.

Are you a non-sports fan who'll be tuning into the Super Bowl? What are you looking forward to?
