Gwyneth Paltrow’s GOOP App Is Too Cool to Hate

gwyneth paltrowYou know Gwyneth Paltrow's Goop newsletter that everybody loves? And hates? And loves to hate? Well, it's spreading like ... goop. The newsletter has now become an app. Yay! More things we can love/hate/love to hate about Gwyneth.

I have to be honest, I haven't downloaded the app. Yet. I might. I don't know. If it was 99 cents, I totally would, but the thing costs $3.99, and from everything I've read about it -- which is a lot -- I'm so not the demographic for it. But then again, I'm not the demographic for her newsletters either, but I get those. But they're free. Gah!

The app is basically "Gwyneth's Guide to New York City," and, well, it's as Gwyneth-y as it gets. It's designed beautifully in faded watercolors with everything in lowercase letters (punctuation hurts rich people's eyes), and it features a little video of Paltrow traipsing around the city, dropping boatloads of cash in record time. MSNBC described the app as something for the "one percent," and one that lets "iPhone users receive Goop's classist and clueless content in a whole new medium." I'm intrigued.

Aside from the $3.99 price tag, the reason I'm hesitant to buy this app is because, well, it seems totally unnecessary. And not just because I will derive no personal gain from this app (other than envy), but because it seems like you can get all this crap online already from other fancy, rich people blogs and chat rooms. Gwyneth didn't need to create a separate app for her NYC Guide, she could have just rolled all this information out in one of her newsletters.

But who am I kidding? I'm totally going to be four bucks poorer tonight.

Will you buy Gwyneth Paltrow's Goop app?
