Thanksgiving Google Doodle Is Full of Surprises

Thanksgiving Google DoodleGoogle gave us something to be thankful for early this year -- its Thanksgiving Google Doodle. Cute, clever, and full of tricks to be uncovered, it's a great way to keep your kids entertained while you prepare the real turkey or to pretend you're busy while someone else does the cooking.

The turkey, which makes up the "oo's", is modeled after the hand-traced versions I've made about one billion of already with my daughter this year alone. But this one is interactive (and mess-free!), so each time you click on the feathers, they change. You can also change the shoes and head gear individually by clicking on them. Click on the wing, and it goes out of control with choices spinning before it creates a look for you. So far I've gotten a pirate turkey, a football-player turkey, and a wizard turkey.

You can even share your turkey with others by clicking on "g+" to share it on Google Plus (note: if you don't have an account, it will prompt you to get one). Or you can click "link" and a get a link that you can send to your family and friends for their Thanksgiving delight.

The best part is the surprises to be found -- there are reportedly 12 combinations that produce special effects as you discover them. For example, if you dress the turkey all in purple -- from hat to shoes to feathers -- poof! a bunny and a wand appear. That's the only one I'm going to share, because it's more fun to play around and discover them yourself.

The only bummer I see -- besides the fact that it makes eating an actual turkey a little harder when they're this cute -- is that there's no sound. It would have been so much better if we got to hear a little turkey talk or a few gobbles with the whole thing.

In any case, it's a great doodle and definitely tops last year's Thanksgiving doodle made up of food. I can't wait to show it to my children tomorrow ... and get some cooking done in peace.
