'Racist' Cardinals Fan Is Really Just an Idiot

st. louis cardinalsOkay, baseball fans, ready? For the win: Illiterate. I-L-L-I-T-E-R-A-T-E. Illiterate.

Perhaps I'm being too hard on the St. Louis Cardinals fan who taunted Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Nyjer Morgan with a very unfortunately misspelled sign behind ESPN's set at Busch Stadium. "Nyjer" is an unusual name, after all. One needn't be illiterate to get that one wrong, I guess.

Except ... here's the thing. I don't know why, exactly, this guy didn't double check the spelling of Morgan's name when was making the BIG enormous sign he planned to wave in front of TV cameras. But when he got to the part where he had to choose between a "j" and a "g," what made him go with the "g"??

I highly doubt the superfan wrote "Nyger" instead of "Nyjer" because he was attempting some kind of racist play on Morgan's name.

Nah, I'm pretty sure he's just an idiot.

Particularly because Morgan, in the eyes of most Cardinals fans, isn't even a player worth insulting. Unless of course this guy with the sign is still holding a grudge over the bizarre tobacco-throwing tantrum Morgan threw in September when Cardinals starter Chris Carpenter struck him out. Morgan then continued his rant on Twitter, extending his ire to first baseman Albert Pujols (whom he referred to as "Alberta").

Either way, I'm afraid this incident isn't going to do all that much to challenge the "dumb jock" stereotype.

Especially because I'm pretty sure the sign-maker missed an apostrophe, too.

Do you think this Cardinals fan misspelled Nyjer Morgan's name on purpose?
