Facebook Is Most Popular (and Most Boring) Site

cat facebookThe results are in. Research from Nielsen's "The Social Media Report" show that American Internet users now devote more time to Facebook than any other website in the universe, spending a total of 53.5 billion minutes a month on the social networking site. In other words, we are 53.5 billion minutes dumber.

Can't say I'm totally shocked here. I mean, Facebook is really popular. But there's one thing about this "study" that just doesn't sit right with me.

Facebook has become a gigantic snooze-fest!

I feel like every time I log on, it's the same people updating, the same people posting photos, and the same people communicating with one another. It even feels like the same people are having birthdays. I don't know how much more I can take.

Now, I'm not one of those people who's all, "I'm quitting Facebook!" Because, like those people who say that, I know I never will. I'm in too deep. I've connected with too many long-lost folk, despite the fact I never actually talk to them. But I will say, I've been spending less and less time on the site as the time goes by.

When I first signed up a few years ago, it was tremendous. I was in awe. I logged on, like, five times a day. "Hey, look at that, Julie McNamara is spending the weekend at her cabin house! Groovy." "Oh, what's that you say? Tim Farrell and his wife just had a baby? Cool!" Now, it seems like Julie McNamara goes to her stupid cabin house every weekend, and Tim Farrell and his wife have 740 kids. The two of them don't stop updating. I'm over it. I don't care about them or their goings on anymore. So I check the site less. Like once a day. Or if I really feel like stickin' it to Zuckerberg, none.

And it's not that I think I'm too cool for school -- really, I don't. Like I said, I'm just overwhelmingly bored when I log on. Apparently I'm in the minority though.

53.5 billion minutes, people.

Are you getting bored with Facebook?
