61-Year-Old Grandpa Proves You're Never Too Old to Play College Ball

footballAlan Moore is just a regular ol' 61-year-old man. He's a father to three children, and a grandfather to five. He's a retired construction worker. Oh, and he's currently playing college football. Yes, like, real college football.

The Vietnam vet is on his way to become the third person over 60 to ever compete in a collegiate athletic contest of any kind. Moore is all set to lace up as the second-string place kicker for Faulker University, a small Christian college in Montgomery, Alabama, when they open their season September 10 against Ave Maria of Florida.

Pretty cool, huh? But don't think he's not getting made fun of ...

In a good-natured way, of course. Moore told the Daily News that his teammates have a litany of names for him: "Grandpa, old man, old school, pops, grand-daddy." But he then added, "I don't mind it. I eat it up. I'm having a ball. My biggest goal from the start was to earn my teammates's respect."

I mean, seriously? Can Alan get more inspiring and adorable? Stop it, Alan! I love that he decided, "What the hell?" and just went for it. And that having fun is his number one priority. When asked what made him come back to the sport, he said, "Gosh, I don't know what made me come back. I thought it would be a joke and we would get some laughs."

Wouldn't it be great if we could all live a little more like Alan? Just do things in order to have a good time, without rhyme or reason?

I hope I'm like Alan when I'm his age many (many) years from now. And I hope Faulker University creams Ave Maria next weekend. Go, Eagles!

How great is this guy?
