Hope Solo Would've Been Cooler if She Kept Her Clothes On

hope soloAh, Hope Solo. The bad ass goalie for the U.S. Women's soccer team. The girl who sent thousands of male hearts aflutter during the 2011 World Cup. The seemingly ideal role model for young girls. The woman ... who's about to pose nude?

The 30-year-old soccer star is apparently baring it all for ESPN the Magazine. She recently tweeted: "Being naked outside is very liberating….at least I hope it will be @ESPN and @ESPNMAG!!! GAMETIME BABY! Ball up!"

Oh, Hope. Please don't do it, sweetie.

I voiced my opinion about Hope (love her!) and her image (please, keep it clean!) when I wrote about her being courted by Dancing With the Stars. I was against it. I just didn't feel that Hope needed to go there in order to stay in the public's eye. "There" being the land of spray tans, blindingly white teeth, and sparkly leotards. Because that doesn't seem to be who she is. And that's where too many women go already.

It seems like every time a female -- an athlete, a sports reporter, a politician's daughter -- makes a name for herself, the next step in her career winds up involving something where she's scantily clad -- be it a subtly sexy photo shoot, a full-on nude photo shoot, or, as I said, a revealing, sparkly leotard.

Is this really the only way for them to maintain our attention? Surely, it can't be, as there are actually "celebrities" who've remained more intriguing and likable to us because they haven't showed any skin. They possess a little mystique. The Middleton sisters immediately come to mind.

It sounds like Hope's already made her decision, though, so there's really no purpose in belaboring this point. And, hey, I'm sure she'll look fantastic in the spread. After all, she's worked hard for her body.

I just wish she would've kept me wondering.

Do you think Hope should pose nude?
