'Facebook' Party Police Are Worse Than Your Parents

wild partyRemember when you were in high school and there was that one student who spoke during a quiz or laughed in the middle of a lesson and the teacher "punished him" by assigning homework to the entire class? Yeah, that sucked. And that's kind of what's happening with ze Germans and Facebook parties right now. Except the teachers are the police. And they're a bunch of clueless morons. Confused yet?

The long and short of it is this: A few fun-loving Germans lookin' for a good time decided to invite all their Facebook friends -- and their Facebook friends, and their Facebook friends -- to parties they were having. The result? Exactly what you would think. Complete and utter chaos. But now the cops are thinking about banning Facebook parties altogether. Groan.

Sure, it's obnoxious when you get those party invitations via Facebook that have 1,600 other people on the list. It's like, what are you trying to prove, Cool Guy? That you're so awesome your UPS guy will show up to your pimps 'n' hoes party? Congratulations. However, putting a ban on these convenient soiree invites -- that most people use responsibly -- is not only stupid, it's not going to do anything.

The thing about parties is, well, they possess the uncanny ability to constantly generate new, unique ways for you to embarrass yourself in front of your coworkers. And they have a mind of their own. Rent any John Hughes movie. Parties have been getting out of control since the beginning of time. It's not Facebook's fault. Facebook only made it more convenient. And if cops are thinking of putting the kibosh on this as an epic blow-out deterrent, they may as well throw in Twitter, Foursquare, email, and texting. Hell, why don't they just take away all of Germany's phones?

Alright, I may be getting a little carried away here. But do you see what I'm saying? It's not Facebook's fault parties wind up reaching dangerous capacities. It's my and your big mouths. And maybe Long Duck Dong's.

Do you think Facebook parties should be banned?
