ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Sells Out, Cheaper Than iPad

ASUS Eee Pad TransformerThese days, an iPad 2 is on the top of my "want" list. I love everything about it. Well, that is, besides the price. So you can imagine my excitement when I found out that the Eee Pad Transformer, a tablet from IT company ASUS, hit the market this April retailing for only $399.99!

That's a whopping $100 less (at least) than the Apple alternative! It's almost too good to be true! And surely, soon enough, it was. Go ahead, look on Amazon. Look on Best Buy. Look on any major online retailer you can even think of. It's gone. No more. Sold out.

Sure, this may suck for me (and you), but it's awesome for ASUS.

I don't know about you, but I've never heard of ASUS before now. The fact that this smaller company, compared to the giants known as Apple and Microsoft, can come into the market and land a sell-out device, well, that's awesome.

Now the techies are buzzing. The media's blaring. And the best part? The average consumer will never know if the device sold out because they didn't manufacturer (initially) a whole lot of the Transformer, or if it's because the product is just that good. Now, people are seeing the words "ASUS" and "Transformer" and want to know what the hype is about. Could this really be the iPad rival that we've all been waiting for?!

Well, let's run through the facts quickly, shall we?

The coolest part about this tablet is that it has a keyboard dock accessory. That means you can slide your tablet into this little dockeroo and BAM! You have a laptop. If that's not enough of a draw for the tablet skeptics, then perhaps the fact that the ASUS gem has twice the amount of RAM, similar battery life, and more USB ports than the iPad will sell you.

Let's just hope that ASUS cranks out a new batch of Eee Pad Transformers quick. Because really, I've spent way too much on gas this month to splurge the extra $100 on an iPad.

What do you think of the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer? Would you choose this over an iPad?
