Mets Need to Lighten Up & Learn to Take a Joke

mets hatLook, the Mets aren't the best team. I know it, you know it, and apparently the subway knows it because there's an ad in it that reads, "Why leave a city that has six professional sports teams, and the Mets." Ouch. And the Mets know it. Except they don't think it's funny.

Last Friday, April Fools' Day, an employee for SNY, the Mets Network, decided to play a prank on the team after their opening night loss. An unidentified worker inserted a few seconds from a Family Guy episode that poked fun at the team. In the clip, Stewie (the baby) says, “So far, Halloween is a bigger letdown than being a Mets fan." The scene then cuts to Stewie at a ballpark, and an announcer says, “Opening day, and here’s the first pitch -- and the season’s over.” People watching the game only heard, “Opening day and here’s the first pitch.” The sound then cut out and it returned to the game. To me, hilarious. To the Mets, not so much.

Andrew Fegyveresi, a spokesman for SNY, said, “It was a very poor decision by an individual employee and the matter is being dealt with internally.”

Aw, come on, that's funny! If you can't be good at sports, at least you can have a sense of humor. You guys just look like a bunch of bitter babies now that you have your panties all in a bunch over a little prank. Don't take yourselves so seriously. It was just an April Fools' joke. (That employee does have quite the pair, though -- wow!)

Think of all the actors and politicians who get mocked on Saturday Night Live. It's a form of flattery. The fact that you were in a Family Guy episode, that's a good thing. That means the public hasn't written you off completely yet. And, hey, now that you had this done to you, maybe it'll light a fire under your ass, get you to take your aggression out on the field?

Ah, you know what? Who am I kidding? You guys are a crappy team and that's why this was done to you. Everyone's laughing. If you want to prevent this from ever happening again, little suggestion: Start winning.

Do you think the Mets prank is funny?
