The Most Typical Face On Earth Will Surprise You (VIDEO)

national geographic typical faceWho would you guess is the most typical human face on the planet? Does that face looks like yours? Unless you're a 28-year-old Han Chinese man, the answer is NO. That's what National Geographic proved as part of its series on the human race called "Population 7 billion."

Research determined that a 28-year-old Han Chinese man is really the most typical person on the planet. There are 9 MILLION people on the planet who fit that description. Wowzers! The magazine was able to create this composite photograph with pictures of nearly 190,000 men of those 9 mil.

The researchers determined that in 20 years, though, the most typical person will be from India.

This project overall is really eye-opening. Just wrapping my head around the sheer NUMBER of people on the planet is wacky, because I feel like New York City is painfully overcrowded! And that's only 8 million people!

But it's also pretty cool that the researchers were able to take almost 200,000 photographs to create this one "most typical face." Makes you think ... how easy was it to do something like this even 20 years ago? Before the Internet, Facebook, Google, e-mail ... how much did we really know about the world's population? Maybe we had the data, but did we have photos of the actual people?

I know they say it all the time that the Internet has made the world smaller in a lot of ways. We can see that in the protests in the Middle East, how demonstrators have organized on Facebook and using other social media. But it also feels like technology has made us wiser about one another. Given us a greater sense of social worldliness, if you will. I really do appreciate that, because it can never hurt to know more about our fellow human beings.

Unfortunately, it seems we're all so consumed in our daily lives, we rarely consider humanity on a global scale. Sheesh, I mean, these days, we don't even know anything about our next-door neighbors! Let alone about people who live on the other side of the planet.

But we should. Maybe it would help to curb some this hate garbage. (Hey, a girl can hope.)

So, thanks, NatGeo, for this cool wake-up call.
