When Zuckerberg Meets Obama, Facebook Will Implode

Expect President Obama to update his status. He's on his way to San Francisco for a couple of days to meet with various high-tech execs, including 26-year-old Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg. The game plan, according to the White House Press Secretary Jay Carney:

The President and the business leaders will discuss our shared goal of promoting American innovation, and discuss his commitment to new investments in research and development, education, and clean energy.

It's been reported lately that Egyptian protesters toppled Hosni Mubarak's regime thanks to the use of Facebook and similar sites. And we all know how Obama himself engaged voters with Facebook and Twitter during the 2008 election. Given their power on the national and world stage, brilliant Silicon Valley types like Zuckerberg, Steve Jobs (Apple), or Eric Schmidt (Google) -- with whom Obama will also meet -- are like national treasures. The President even acknowledged that in his recent State of the Union address, when he said:

We are the nation that put cars in driveways and computers in offices; the nation of Edison and the Wright brothers; of Google and Facebook. In America, innovation doesn't just change our lives. It's how we make a living.

So, there's no doubt that the President likely figures that if anyone knows how to help him pull America up by the bootstraps -- when it comes to job growth and innovation -- it's the guys who have captivated the entire world's imagination ... time ... attention, etc.

Although it's clear Obama currently 'likes' Zuckerberg, there's a lot of speculation about how the dinner (which is to be held at a private residence in Northern California) will go. Will Zuckerberg be as painfully stilted as he was on his SNL appearance with Jesse Eisenberg (aka the kid who played him in that movie "not really" based on his life)? Will Obama's characteristic verbosity bore the execs who are used to communicating in 140 character clips? Or will some of the most powerful guys on the planet sit down and have some kind of miraculous brainstorm about how harnessing the intelligence behind the Facebook newsfeed or FarmVille will birth the next Einsteins and Hawkings, speeding our progress lightyears ahead of China, India, and the rest of the WORLD?!

Hey, it's possible! I really do think this will be a productive meeting -- and Obama is brilliant to tap the knowledge of these Silicon Valley smartypants in an attempt to give the U.S. an economic edge. I just hope Zuckerberg and the rest of 'em are deeply committed to accepting this friend request ...

Now, go share this on Facebook to see what your friends think! You know you wanna ...
