The cupcake craze may or may not be over, but in my house, they will never go out of style! Cupcakes are our go-to birthday treat at school and, quite often, for our home parties as well. Kids love to help decorate them, and they look just as appealing no matter how unrestrained your little assistants are with sprinkles and toppings.

Cupcakes just say "fun,” and that's especially true for these extra-cute and festive ones using red and blue sprinkles for a patriotic effect. You could adapt these almost endlessly ... school colors for a graduation party, team colors for a tailgate, or pink and blue for a baby shower.

Welp, that's the way the cupcake crumbles. Giant cupcake chain Crumbs is closing all its stores, the company announced Monday. As of last night, all 51 locations across 12 states have been shuttered. It's the cupcakepalypse! Abandon all hope, cupcake lovers, for this is the beginning of the end of the cupcake trend as we know it. Or is it?

At a time like this, we all have to ask ourselves this important question: What does this mean for the future of cupcakes?

Easter is almost here, and while many of us are planning our celebratory meal, dessert is often an afterthought. After cooking up a feast for your family, you often just don't have the time or the energy to spend making a festive dessert. I know I don't!

But here's the thing: Many of us don't want to buy something from our local bakery this Easter. We want to present something with a personal touch. In honor of bunnies, Easter eggs, and time better spent being with family than baking, here are 5 super easy and sweet Easter desserts that make a great holiday dinner finale.

Are you going to make a special Easter dessert this year, and if so, any ideas?

Easter bunny cupcakes give new meaning to the phrase: you're so cute, I could just gobble you up! What better way to get into the holiday spirit than to add cupcake baking to your list of Easter traditions? Get your kids in on the fun by assigning them an easy task (if your tots are anything like mine, they'll forego wanting to hold a mixer and potentially creating an insane amount of mess in favor of decorating their bunnies with cute candy noses and ears). Whip up a big, yummy batch of these darling cupcakes the day before you plan to color your Easter eggs and -- voila -- you'll have an instant and memorable treat loved by every member of your family.

Did I mention the adorable quotient of these little goodies is off the charts?

Remember a couple years ago when we told you about the cupcake ATM that was supposed to be arriving in New York City? The first one went up in Beverly Hills with the promise of another on this coast. And so I waited. And I waited. And I waited. At last, the blessed day arrived. I woke up to the sound of angels singing yesterday morning and didn't understand why until I read the news: The Sprinkles cupcake ATM had finally opened in New York. At last! And because this was clearly very important news, I made a beeline for the ATM to give it a try myself.

There are a few very important things that we think of when we think about weddings. We think of love, we think of dresses, we think of parties, and we definitely all think about cake. A cake, most of us would agree, is central to a wedding. The image of the newly wedded couple slicing the cake together, of feeding it to each other, those are hallmarks of a wedding.

You want your cake to be memorable. You want your cake to be delicious. But in a sea of wedding cake options, everything can start to look the same. So how do you make yours stand out from the crowd?

Snickerdoodles are heaven-sent. Cookies of any sort are delicious, to be sure. Only a philistine would disagree with this sentiment. But snickerdoodles, with their chewy, buttery sweetness and cinnamon-scented warmth, are something special. Make a plate of them and almost immediately they vanish before they are cool, leaving only their lingering aroma behind them. Can you think of anything more perfect when it comes to hand-held desserts?

As a matter of fact, we can. Snickerdoodle ... cupcakes. That's right, the best of both worlds -- if by both worlds you mean cakes and cookies. Snickerdoodle cupcakes give you the airy buttery warmth of cake with the crackling sweetness of a Snickdoodle. I'm drooling just writing about it. Serve these suckers up, and you've got a crowd-pleaser on your hands like no other before you. But be sure you plan to double the batch if you plan on having leftovers! Don't say we didn't warn you.

Even though they're a food most people associate with the holiday season, sweet potatoes really do fit the bill any time of the year. They're delicious straight out of the oven. Or in a casserole. Or even as the main ingredient in a hearty soup.

But if you're looking for a fun twist on this old favorite, this Sweet Potato Cupcakes recipe from Allrecipes just might convince you that potatoes and dessert are a winning combination.

And aren't they a nice switch from regular sugary-sweet cupcakes? (I'm so over chocolate, vanilla, and everything in between at this point.)
