Happy almost-Cinco de Mayo -- the holiday celebrated more in America than in Mexico. In the state of Puebla, the holiday is called El Día de la Batalla de Puebla and commemorates a battle the Mexican army won against French forces in 1862. (Mexican Independence Day is September 16.) The holiday is still celebrated in Puebla, a region famous for its complicated but amazing mole sauces.

Here in the U.S., Cinco de Mayo has become a celebration of Mexican heritage. So when it comes to traditional Cinco de Mayo party food, almost anything Mexican-ish goes. Even Tex-Mex and California-style burritos. But here's a few of my favorite picks.

Well shoot. I was really looking forward to sampling these potato chips I'd heard about. They're flavored like a non-alcoholic Bloody Mary, "with Worcestershire sauce and chili." Rockin', right? Oh, but just one eensy weensy little problem: They were called "Virgin Mary" potato chips. And the chips have been yanked off the shelves because people complained about the name.

The chips were sold by sandwich chain Pret A Manger. When Catholic group Protect the Pope caught wind of the snacks, they started a campaign against them, saying the name was offensive because don't you think it's a little sacrilegious to name a potato snack after the Mother of Jesus?!?

For some celebs, acting and singing just isn't enough. A surprising number of stars are trying their hand at winemaking. So we put vino by a few favorites -- Madonna, Dave Matthews, Drew Barrymore, and Antonio Banderas -- to the test. We asked CafeMom staffers to critique aroma, flavor, how it felt going down, and whether they would actually serve it. To make sure there was no bias, none of our expert tasters knew who made what. You won't believe which wine was voted "most sexy" and which one was so despised, "I'd only give it to hated in-laws or as a hostess gift -- if I never wanted another invite!" Check it out.

I don't know about you, but I kind of feel like I need a shot of vodka every time I hear the words "fiscal cliff." It so deserves to be on Lake Superior State University's banished words list, doesn't it? Which reminds me ... actually, that might make a good drinking game! Because. Ermahgerd, 2012. It's been all the talk at parties this holiday season -- this was one helluva year.

So here are four drinking games for 2012. If you're at a New Year's Eve party tonight -- or even if you're just watching the ball drop from warm, cozy safety of your sofa -- it's what all the cool kids-over-21 will be doing. Let's toast to the stories we want to wash away in 2013!

Um, wow, doesn't anyone else feel like they need a great, big cocktail? I'm not just talking about the hectic holidays. I'm talking about these crazy headlines! The news seemed especially crazy this year, what with all the naked flesh-eating zombies, the Olympic games, and the Presidential election. Someone pour me a tall one -- of anything.

No, actually, I think I'd like a different cocktail for every major news story for the year. I don't even want to think about the hangover I'll have come January 1, 2013. Just pour me one of those Bath Salt Gin 'tinis!

You know how certain meals pair well with particular adult beverages? Filet mignon with a nice Bordeaux, for example. Chicken tetrazzini with a Chianti, perhaps. Burgers and brew. Whatever you ate out of cans in college and wine coolers. Anyway. Guess what? Certain TV shows pair well with particular adult beverages, too. Obviously. Just ask the folks from the Ommegang Brewery, who just came out with a new beer inspired by Game of Thrones called Iron Throne Blonde Ale. Winter is coming ... gotta stay warm!

So it makes total sense that a brewery finally figured out an old-style, puts hair on your chest ale would appeal to Game of Thrones fans. But we want to know what's taking all the other wineries and distilleries so long? ? Imagine how much fun it would be to get tipsy while you watched the tube if all of your favorite small-screen hits had their own designated drink! Here are a few of our fantasy pairings:

I have to admit, it was a long time before I learned to love eggnog. As a kid, I found the holiday classic to be completely confusing: Why didn't it taste like a vanilla milkshake? It looked like a vanilla milkshake, kind of. Why didn't the brown powder on top taste like chocolate? And so on.

But now that I've developed a taste for nutmeg and appreciate the value of a good winter cocktail, I feel very differently about eggnog. My philosophy? If you're gonna do it, don't do it halfway -- that's why I love Paula Deen's recipe for Mama's Eggnog. Yes, Paula Deen! And no, there isn't any butter in this nog (but there is bourbon, which is better). Cheers!

It's now officially holiday season, and you know what that means? Holiday cocktails! Time to par-tay! Oh yeah. For some of us, the time between Thanksgiving and New Years is practically an alcohol tsunami, with toasting and celebrations happening all the time.

And that's just fine with me. But I'm pausing here for a moment to review my booze rules. These are the little rules I have about drinking. Because I grew up in a teetotaler home I've had to figure a lot of this stuff out on my own. I learned the hard way that I don't have to eagerly accept every single time someone offers me a drink. Here's when I say no, and when I say go.
