In the wake of the massacre at the Sandy Hook Elementary School, semi-automatic weapon sales have skyrocketed, specifically for AR-15 rifles, the same gun that shooter Adam Lanza used to murder 20 children and six adults on that horrifying day. Gun shops can't seem to stay stocked, and there are even reports of long wait lists for the military rifles. In an even sicker twist, a lot of those weapons seem to have been given as Christmas gifts, and the recipients have been posting photos of themselves, posing with their new assault weapons. And a lot of them are women. Women. Holding assault rifles. WTF?

Why anyone needs weapons like this who isn't, you know, stationed in Afghanistan, is beyond me. But also, who gives someone else an assault weapon for Christmas???

Yay! Christmas Day is finally here, and once you've managed to crawl out from under the mounds of wrapping paper and presents, there's really nothing better than throwing on a little Christmas music to sing with the family.

Of course, some songs are much more fun for kids than others, particularly the ones that have to do with Santa. But even though that's the part of Christmas little ones get most excited about, it's also important to teach them why we're really celebrating today -- and that's why it's good to incorporate some carols that tell the story of baby Jesus' birth as well.

I'm not sure how many of you are reading today, but if you're here and it's Tuesday and you're celebrating Christmas, well, Merry Christmas! I hope you're having a wonderful, joyous day full of family togetherness and delicious food and smiles and laughter!

Let's be honest, though: it's probably also full of some other, not-so-Hallmark-worthy moments. That's just the nature of the holidays, all that pressure for a perfect day, and something's bound to fall apart. Like about twenty of your favorite glass ornaments, when your peanut-brained Labrador wags her giant dorky tail into the tree … oh wait, that was our Christmas, back in 2005.

Anyway, if you're struggling with a few rough spots in an otherwise festive occasion, take solace that things could be worse. Here are 13 folks whose Christmas wasn't quite so jolly:

It's Christmas Day, and many families are gathering for special, home-cooked meals. But not everyone celebrates Christmas. And even some people who do, prefer to eat out. Not to mention, I think we all remember what befell the turkey in the movie, A Christmas Story. The dogs ran off with it and the family ate out at a Chinese restaurant!

Whatever your reasons for eating out, you have a few options. There are a handful of chain restaurants open on Christmas day.

For as long as I can remember, I've eaten some form of an egg casserole on Christmas morning. For some reason my family called it "egg brunch," and some call it a strata, but no matter the name, it's the perfect breakfast or brunch dish for Christmas.

The following recipe from Taste of Home is one of my favorites as it's just the basics -- sausage, eggs, and cheese. However, you can also add a variety of chopped vegetables (peppers and mushrooms are particularly good) and/or change up the meats and cheeses (bacon and Swiss with a little chopped spinach thrown in is delish). The real beauty of it, however, is that you can make it the night before and just pop it in the oven in the morning.

Maybe you don't celebrate Christmas. Maybe you do, but you get an awful paper cut opening presents and need bandages. Whatever the reason, people do sometimes want to go shopping on Christmas Day. So it's helps to know which stores are open on the big day.

As usual, the list of open stores is way short -- even shorter than last year's. Hope you don't need anything you can't get at a drug store! Because there's not much else open -- well, past midnight Christmas Eve, anyway. Here's what we could find.

It's only when you take a look back through your photo archives that you realize how fast time flies and how much changes over the course of a year, or two, or three. With the season of Christmas upon us, it only seemed appropriate to take a little trip down holiday memory lane. I asked a few very talented mom photographers to hit their archives and share a favorite Christmas memory. In turn, what we also got are seven of the many wonderful things about celebrating Christmas with our kids.

I know for myself, the images of the holiday season can stir up all kinds of memories and magic. There is no time quite a nostalgic as Christmas.

Damn. Is there anything sexier than a super hot dad who not only looks great, but also willingly helps out around the house? It's funny just how irresistible it is to watch a man do chores -- and that's why you're going to love the little holiday treat CafeMom Studios put together for all of us who can't seem to resist a good helping of serious eye candy.

The latest episode of Hot Dads Doing Chores follows one delicious hunk of a dad as he gets out of bed (shirtless!), and tiptoes downstairs to wrap a few gifts to put under the tree.

There are not a lot of things cuter than a baby puppy or kitten, except for maybe a tiny furball leaping after wrapping paper on Christmas morning as the children squeal and clap with delight at their new living present. That’s right -- a puppy for Christmas!

We have some good family friends that just got their teenage son a sweet little pug puppy for Christmas. The photos on Instagram and FaceBook are completely precious, and it’s obvious the entire family is in love with this ridiculously adorable little girl.

We have an Elf on the Shelf, one of the slightly effeminate original doll-like versions, rather than the plush version I see everywhere these days. My kids are devoted to "Relf," and run around every December morning like maniacs to see where he's relocated to. While remembering to move Relf each night is pretty much a giant pain in my ass, the awesome thing is that my kids completely and totally buy the Shelf Elf Lore -- that every night he flies home to the North Pole in order to report their behavior to Santa.

Relf is a hell of a bargaining chip, is what I'm saying, as is Santa himself, obviously. My kids have never really questioned Relf's abilities, but the standard explanation in our household is "he's magic." Which, okay, isn't all that creative.

In the spirit of deliberately deceiving your children, here are some of the funniest lies I've heard of parents telling their suspicious kids about Santa and his helpers during the holidays:
