Easter is almost here, and while many of us are planning our celebratory meal, dessert is often an afterthought. After cooking up a feast for your family, you often just don't have the time or the energy to spend making a festive dessert. I know I don't!

But here's the thing: Many of us don't want to buy something from our local bakery this Easter. We want to present something with a personal touch. In honor of bunnies, Easter eggs, and time better spent being with family than baking, here are 5 super easy and sweet Easter desserts that make a great holiday dinner finale.

Just like Halloween, Easter is a holiday where we truly love us some candy. There are chocolate eggs, jelly beans, bunnies in every edible form imaginable.

Still, nothing says 'Easter' quite the way a marshmallow does. Its light, airy texture reminds us of springtime air -- with more sugar. They make great additions to every Easter basket: Nobody doesn't like a marshmallow.

But marshmallows often leave us scratching our heads when it comes to making them at home. Like so many candies, most of us would rather jog out to the store and buy them ready to go rather than slave away over a hot stove.

That's because candy -- and marshmallows in particular -- get a bad rap! They might take a little bit of time to make, sure. But most of that time? It's just waiting around! Making your own marshmallows at home is a fast, easy treat that you can get done in 5 east steps

Almost everyone is thrilled when the Easter candy starts rolling into stores -- everyone except people with peanut allergies (and their parents). For these folks the Easter basket is a receptacle of anaphylactic shock waiting to happen. So many classic candies are made in a factory that processes nuts. It's kind of a bummer! What's a candy lover with nut and other allergies supposed to do? Well, the good news is it's entirely possible to build an allergen-free Easter basket. You just have to be a little more creative and a whole lot more careful. Here are a few tips.

Easter bunny cupcakes give new meaning to the phrase: you're so cute, I could just gobble you up! What better way to get into the holiday spirit than to add cupcake baking to your list of Easter traditions? Get your kids in on the fun by assigning them an easy task (if your tots are anything like mine, they'll forego wanting to hold a mixer and potentially creating an insane amount of mess in favor of decorating their bunnies with cute candy noses and ears). Whip up a big, yummy batch of these darling cupcakes the day before you plan to color your Easter eggs and -- voila -- you'll have an instant and memorable treat loved by every member of your family.

Did I mention the adorable quotient of these little goodies is off the charts?

Look around every store and one thing is obvious: It's Easter season. Time for candy! Yes, it's that time of year when the Easter bunny brings us more candy than we know what to do with. These are unfortunate times to grow up loving sweet stuff. The World Health Organization just popped a lot of our (candy) bubbles when it recently released a study stating only 5 percent of our calories should come from sugar. That's waaay easier to say than do if you're like me and your number one favorite snack in the world is chocolate-covered strawberries dipped in (heavily sweetened) vanilla yogurt. No fair.

But a fact is a fact. And rather than fight it and risk all of the health consequences involved with overdosing on sugar -- diabetes and obesity, for example -- we can embrace some of the sweet alternatives out there. Lucky for us, one of these sugar substitutes is healthy, not saccharine-sweet, and can be used in more delish recipes than you would believe. I speak of everyone's latest and greatest favorite sweetener: agave.

Surveys may show Valentine's Day is borderline obsolete, but that doesn't mean your honey may not be expecting something sweet tomorrow! Or that it isn't nice to do something small to celebrate. And if you feel like buying chocolates isn't just pricey, but it can be so impersonal, homemade treats are definitely the most heartfelt way to go.

One option: Festive crispy chocolate hearts, which are easier than you think to whip up!

OMG. Want to really kick things up a notch for your kid's birthday this year? Then instead of going the store-bought route or whipping up a regular old birthday cake, you should consider blowing his mind with this creative Kit Kat cake recipe from Food.com.

Are you believing how awesome this thing is?!? I mean, it's almost too pretty to eat -- though something tells me a bunch of kiddos at a birthday party will have no problem digging right in and tearing it apart.

Kit Kats are awesome. And so are M&M's. And then you put them together into this perfect little package and good grief I want a piece right this second.
