Part of the beauty of summer and all of the opportunities to grill out it provides is that you don't have to turn on your oven to get a great meal. Sometimes, though, you need more than what your grill can provide, and that's where your slow cooker can be your summer BBQ BFF.

If you've got the meat going on the grill, there are a host of delicious side dishes you can cook up in the Crock-Pot. Get them cooking earlier in the day, and they're ready to dish up alongside whatever the grill master serves. Here are six of my favorite slow cooker side dishes for summer.

Do you use your slow cooker much in the summer?

I love food cooked on the grill, but I hate actually USING the grill, because I have such a hard time figuring out when the grilled meat is DONE! It's not so difficult with seafood like shrimp or even salmon, but when it comes to a nice steak or -- hardest of all -- chicken breasts, my cooking is totally hit or miss. What's the secret?

Since my husband has cottoned on to the fact that I do actually know how to operate the grill and therefore can't try to shirk grilling duty on to him all the time (rats!), I decided to do some research and solve the mystery once and for all. But first I should probably confess my horrible grilling technique ...

When it comes to camping, some like to rough it a little bit more than others. Personally, I'm fine giving up some luxuries, as long as my meals consist of more than trail mix.

There's something about eating a hearty meal out under the stars that just makes everything more delicious. While hot dogs and s'mores are easy standard fare, there are plenty of other great dishes you can make over a campfire that won't make you miss your stove at all. Here are eight of the best campfire recipes of all time.

Grilling season has officially started -- are you ready? I'm no expert, but I have been grilling long enough to know that cooking with fire is NOT the domain of men only. If you don't already, this could be the year for you to own that Weber grill. It's one of the easiest ways to cook food. Why do you think men like it so much?

Grilling isn't fool-proof, though. I've learned this the hard way. (Not that I'm a fool ... um, never mind.) Here are eight grilling mistakes I've made and how you can avoid them.

Get your grills ready, Monday is Memorial Day. I probably feel this way every year, but it seems particularly unbelievable this year that it's here already. I can't tell you how much I love these tomatoes. They are without a doubt my favorite side dish of all time, and sometimes we even eat them as a great, light dinner. They're grilled tomatoes with mozzarella and basil, and they go perfectly with pretty much anything.

They're as easy as can be too. This is a recipe I've adapted from several ones I've found over the years. I think it's the perfect mix of garlic, tomatoes, and creaminess. Once you make them, they will become a must-make every time you fire up the grill.

When it comes to summer cooking, I feel like it's all about the side dishes. With the grill cooking up most of the main courses, I feel like I'm being constantly asked to "just bring a side" to a host of barbecues and other summer gatherings. This dish is beyond good and goes well with most anything. It's called Crack Potatoes. Yes, crack, as in highly addictive, will not be able to stop eating them.

From Plain Chicken, these spuds are a cheesy, creamy, bacon-filled, beautiful thing. As you start with a bag of frozen hash browns, they're incredibly easy to whip up too anytime you need a side dish. In fact, they're so good, you may not even need a main course.
