Have you ever thought about starting your own business? If so, you'd be wise to take advice from bailey4302. This stay-at-home mother of two always loved to bake and recently decided to start her own online bakery business called CakesIBake.com
bailey4302, or the "Cake Lady" as her kids' friends like to call her, sells adorable homemade cookies, cakes, and cupcakes for any occasion. Her creations are not only high quality and professional looking but also cute as a button! If you go to her Web site, you can see my personal favorites—the reindeer cupcakes and the wedding cake cookies. These turkey cupcakes are one of her best-sellers around Thanksgiving.
CafeMom asked the "Cake Lady" about how she started CakesIBake.com, if she had any advice to moms about starting their own business, and, of course, how to bake the perfect sugar cookie. Check out the interview, then order some delicious baked goods from CakesIBake.com.
When did you start CakesIBake.com?
CakesIBake.com is two months old. All the cookies, cakes, and icings are made from scratch. I'm a stay-at-home mom and I work out of my kitchen. I started because I have been making cakes and cookies and cupcakes for years now for my children and nephews and nieces and my friends encouraged me to start Web site. One night I went online and started creating it from there. I take all the photos, and I designed the site myself.
Have you been busy since you put up the site?
Actually, since I put it up I've been really busy. This week, for example, I working on 65 cupcakes and two cakes. Anyone can order my cookies through the site; I can ship them anywhere. You can't ship the cakes, though. So customers would have to live in the Jersey or Staten Island area so they could come pick them up from me.
Who buys your baked goods?
People hear about me from word of mouth. It's friends of friends of friends of friends. And it's also people who sign up for my newsletter.
Why did you decide to start your own bakery business?
I've always loved baking and it became something that I loved to do for my kids' classes. I'm known as the "Cake Lady" in their classes. I do it for my kids—to see the smiles on their faces and to see them get such a kick out of the cookies. It really is for them. Some day I'd love to have my own little bakery.
Stayed tuned tomorrow when bailey4302 shares her recipe for the perfect sugar cookie!
