DIY is the way to go when it comes to decorating the table for the big holiday meal. Woman's Day has some great ideas for making your table festive by creating centerpieces with things from around the house.
- Rustic Mix: Give an autumn table setting a jolt of rustic warmth by topping it with a mix of small and large arrangements in mismatched terra-cotta pots. Or keep it simple with just a single vessel filled with a mass of vibrant blooms. Insert a plastic container into the pot, nestle stems of wire vine or floral foam inside, and add a mix of flowers in an array of autumn hues, such as gerberas, miniature calla lilies, ranunculus and roses.
- Citrus Zest: For an ultra-easy yet super-vibrant centerpiece, simply layer a mix of navel oranges, kumquats and lemons on a wooden or ceramic platter and feather in lemon leaves or other sprigs of greenery. Add extra color by topping each napkin with a stem of kumquats and wrapping with a strand of red kitchen twine. And add a fresh scent by adorning chairs with a star anise-studded star orange in a mesh fruit bag tied with a ribbon.
- Pine Cone Party Favor: Perk up place settings in no time—and at virtually no cost—with cute party favors crafted from backyard basics. Cut and press a block of floral foam into copper or ceramic bud vases—or even paper cups. Push in the rounded end of a pinecone, securing it in place with a spot of glue. Then ring the base of the cone with sprigs of pepper berries, small twigs and greenery. Your guests will appreciate the takeaway—and remember you in the days ahead for as long as the petite arrangements last in their own homes.
