Decorated cutout cookies are pretty much a given around the holidays. Today, Sstepph shares her signature sugar cookie recipe. She says, "I have messed with it, and finally got it right!"
Sugar Cookies from Sstepph
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup Crisco or shortening
1 egg
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 1/4 cups all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
Extra sugar (if you want to roll the cookies in sugar)
In a bowl, cream butter, Crisco, and sugar. Add the vanilla and sugar and mix well. Combine flour, baking soda, and baking powder, and add slowly to the mixture. Shape in balls and roll in sugar. Place on greased cookie sheet, and flatten with a glass. Or, roll the dough out and use cookie cutters.
