Whenever my family has a holiday party, it's always expected that the following foods will be served: strawberry-cream cheese Jello fruit salad, chicken/stuffing casserole, shrimp cocktail, apple pie, Christmas cut-out cookies, and whiskey sours in the blender.
If any one of these foods is not present at one of our family parties, you can absolutely expect a riot to break out!
Here's what some CafeMoms traditionally serve at their family holiday parties:
For about the past 25 years I have had a Christmas Eve brunch...The menu varies only sligtly: always a ham, bacon and sausage, eggs of some type, hash-brown casserole, cheese grits, (I live in the south), biscuits, and whatever new recipes I may have found for the year.
We go to my uncle's for Christmas Eve, and stay home on Christmas Day. I have all of our favorite finger foods, a ham, and rolls.
Our family has a party every Christmas eve. I hosted it last year and will again this year. We usually have finger foods: Lil' weenies, sub sandwich, veggie trays, fruit trays. And, little cheesecake or frozen slices of cheesecake.
On Christmas morning, everyone always goes to my mother- and father-in-laws' to open gifts. There is always donuts, sausage patties, and mimosas waiting. Later that day, we go to my other sister-in-law's house for the traditional Christmas dinner: ham, mashed potatoes, deviled eggs, etc.
Which foods are you expected to serve at family parties (lest a riot break out)?
