Halloween is almost here! Are you ready for all the trick-or-treaters to come tomorrow?
When I was little, I used to dread Halloween each year—first, because I hated the homemade costumes my mom would always make for my sister and I. And, second, because it embarrassed me that we were the only house that handed out healthy treats (raisins and granola bars).
I wanted a plastic-y store-bought costume! I wanted to give trick-or-treaters giant Hershey bars bigger than my head!
But now as an adult, I now understand why my mom did the things she did on Halloween. Now, I adore homemade costumes—in fact, the more homemade the better!
And as far as handing out treats goes? Well, I understand now why my mom didn't want to spend her money loading up the neighborhood kids with sugar. Maybe raisins and granola bars were a little over the top, but I get it.
The treats I hand out now definitely aren't healthy in any way, shape, or form (I give out Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, which is my favorite candy). But I've taken a cue from my mom and opt for the mini size over the giant.
After all, a tiny indulgence once in a while can be a good thing.
Tell us, what are you handing out on Halloween?
