Vegetarian moms, vegan moms, and just plain healthy moms are worried about Halloween and the amount of candy our kids will likely consume.
Sure, sugar overload is a concern, but did you also know that many kinds of candy contains gelatin and other animal products? Even chocolate contains stearic acid, which is a fatty substance made from animal stomachs. That's bad news for moms who worry about what they are putting into their little one's tummies.
Luckily, PETA has a long list of healthy(ish) Halloween treats that are better for kids. I'm sure you'll recognize most of the candy on it.
(Thank you to Aurorabunny for passing this along!)

Thanks so much for sharing this!
We have a big bag ready to pass out of Sour Patch Kids, Swedish Fish and Dum Dums. If only my husband would stop eating them. There mignt not be any left.
My mouth is watering just looking at those Sour Patch candies!
Maybe it's just me, but I feel a bit cheated if I don't get some chocolate on Halloween.
We give out Animal Crackers. The parents and kids seemed to enjoy them last year so I was really happy to see Walgreens got them again this year for Halloween :)
Those are all vegan? And none of them are Nestle! Score!

Yeah I may have to get some Endangered Species dark bars for myself but at $4 something a piece they are NOT going to the trick or treaters, LOL. A lot of dark chocolate is vegan though.
Oh my gosh, I LOVE those Endangered Species bars. Have you tried the one with cranberries and almonds? It's my fave.
Yum! Jolly Ranchers and Swedish Fish -- I love 'em! Useful list -- thanks for sharing!
YES...I could probably gain a billion pounds on Endangered Species chocolate. I try to buy them sparingly, haha.
