I always thought that once a bag of chips was left open and went stale, it was a goner. But I was wrong. Apparently, there are a couple of ways to make those stale chips crispy again...
Chips get stale when they are left open and come in contact with moisture in the air. To get them crispy again, you need to remove that moisture.
Here are two ideas:
- Microwave chips for about two minutes.
- Bake them in an oven for about two minutes.
To keep chips from going stale initially, store them in an air-tight container. You can even freeze chips in an air-tight container to keep them even longer.
Do you salvage stale chips or do you bite the bullet and just buy a whole new bag?

That's actually really cool. I tend to just eat stale chips, but I'll give this a try next time! I never thought of that!
Awesome! I didn't think my chips could be saved! lol. I wonder if this works with cereal, too?
That's an awesome idea! love it!
I had no idea! Oh yeah that makes me so happy!
Do you have any idea how much you are going to save this family with this one?!?! lol Seriously, dd, ds and even dh for some reason just can't close a bag of chips...and as soon as I go to get one, I take a bite and immediately head to the trash can with bag in hand! THANK YOU!!!
Very Cool!!!! That is such a $$ saver!
This is great! I can't wait to try it! We usually try to suck it up and just eat stale chips but occasionally had to throw them out because they tasted so bad. In Central IL the humidity is SO bad, a bag of chips would be stale in less than an hour. This will save us SO much money! Thanks for such a great tip. I can't wait to try it!! :)
The better solution is to keep them in a Tupperware container so they don't go stale in the first place. Since I started using Tupperware's modular mates, I haven't thrown away anything in my pantry.
what temp do you bake them in the oven?
