I can't say I'm the biggest fan of the frozen food section. Sure, prepared meals can be convenient and even life-saving on a busy night. But the quality at times leaves something to be desired...

That's why I'm interested to see how the new Joy of Cooking meals will taste. You know what I'm talking about when I say the Joy of Cooking cookbook, right? It's that seminal, red-and-white cookbook that our mothers and our grandmothers used? Now, this food bible has inspired a new line of frozen meals...

The Joy of Cooking foods are available in a variety of courses including:

  • Main Dishes (Lasagna, Pulled Pork, Linguini with Shrimp & Asparagus)
  • Vegetables (Carrots, Green Beans)
  • Sides (Macaroni and Cheese, Baked Potatoes)
  • Breads (Mini French Baguettes)

The idea behind the products is to "enjoy the taste of homemade without all the work." For example, to make the Slow-Roasted Chicken Leg Quarters (above), you simply bake the chicken and glaze with included barbecue sauce pouch (mixed with 1 tablespoon of your own Hoisin sauce).

This product has some pretty high expectations to meet: I mean, the Joy of Cooking cookbook has been passed down from generation to generation. I'm not sure if a frozen meal can handle all the hype, can you?
