According to the International Ice Cream Association, vanilla is the most popular ice cream flavor in the United States. I always get vanilla if I'm having a hot fudge sundae (whip cream, no nuts) and I put vanilla on pie, but if I'm just having ice cream in a cup or a cone, I usually choose something with a little more pizazz.
Serious Eats recently did a vanilla ice cream taste test and tried six national ice cream brands and ranked them on a scale of 1 to 5. Here's how they ranked:
1. Haagen-Dazs (4.5)
2. Ben & Jerry's (4.2)
3. Blue Bunny (3)
4. Breyers (2.4)
5. Horizon (2.25)
I do like Haagen-Dazs vanilla, but I also love Edy's vanilla ice cream, which wasn't tested.
Do you like vanilla ice cream? What's your favorite brand? What's your favorite ice cream flavor?
