Cooking With...Bradensmommy719

Bradensmommy719 took a break from culinary school to raise her adorable son Braden—but she didn't stop baking. Check out her amazing cakes and find out which celebrity baker she'd love to meet...

CM: Tell us about your family.

I live with my boyfriend, Brandon, and our son, Braden, 14 months. We live in an apartment that has a small kitchen and no space for anything.

What is Braden's favorite thing to eat for breakfast?

Braden loves Cheerios or pancakes. He also enjoys blueberry muffins!

What is his favorite thing to eat for lunch?

Usually for lunch we have grilled cheese or quesadillas. We also like pasta or homemade mac and cheese.

And dinner?

Braden love his veggies, potatoes, and homemade biscuits. He has not had a lot of meats but loves breads of any sort.

What is one thing you can make better than everyone else?

My younger sister and Brandon love my chicken nuggets. However, everyone always requests my cheesecakes. Every year for the holidays I make goodie baskets that my family adores—they always ask if I will make them. They are usually filled with cookies, frosted flake wreaths, and homemade fudge.

If you could eat one food every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Roasted garlic Parmesan potatoes and chicken with Mexican wedding cakes (snowballs) for dessert.

What was the theme of the last birthday party you had for Braden?

Braden's first birthday was March 3, and we had a jungle theme. My mom and I made cupcakes, and we had pizza and breadsticks. Braden and my niece and nephews played tag and pop the balloons.

How did you learn how to cook?

I taught myself when I was about 12. I would make the easy boxed desserts and then started getting creative. By the time I was in college, I was making my own creations. My mom was also a great teacher in the kitchen;she always made dinner as we were growing up, and I always enjoyed helping her.

Do you have a favorite cookbook?

My school books are so inspiring. They have a bunch of great recipes that get me excited to be in the kitchen. I also have two baking cookbooks that always give me inspiration.

If you could meet one celebrity chef who would it be?

Just one?! Chef Duff (of Food Network's Ace of Cakes)—he is amazing at making cakes! He has a great personality and is down to earth!

Which food groups on CafeMom do you belong to?

Dessert Moms, Homemade Baby Food, and the March 2008 Mamas Cooking Corner.

What would be your dream job after you finish culinary school?

I was working toward a certified culinary arts degree with a pastry certificate. I had to take a break to raise my son. I would love to finish my eleven classes! I have always wanted to own my own bakery. Doing what I love and sharing with everyone else—that has always been my best stress reliever.
