CandiH posted a question in the Recipe Swap! group that I'm sure many pregnant women will find helpful:
What meals will help to stave off morning sickness?
Generally, avoiding fried foods, high-fat foods, and foods with strong aromas may help to reduce the nausea for some women. CandiH also said greasy food, cheese, pork, and beef didn't sound at all good to her. With this in mind, here are some great meal suggestions from CafeMoms:
- Medicmomof2 suggested chicken salad made with grapes and nuts and baked cod.
- According to wiener, anything with potatoes helped a lot—for example, mashed potatoes, hash browns, tater tot casserole.
- Momoftwohearts, also speaking from experience, suggested a bunch of non-greasy meals: grilled chicken and veggies over pasta, baked potatoes and salad, rice sauteed with mushrooms and peas, and baked tilapia with lemon pepper and olive oil.
- AngelaSue1979 said an English Muffin with an egg on top, and rice and beans.
Other foods said to either help prevent or soothe morning sickness include: crackers, dry toast, pretzels, herbal teas, lemon, and ginger.
Thanks, ladies for the great suggestions! Do you have any more ideas?

Orange juice and saltines worked for me. But any type of sour candy or tangy drink would help out.
My morning sickness lasted about eight weeks. I drank gallons of chamomile tea, with the occasional switch to peppermint tea. All I could eat was vanilla yogurt and potato chips. I tried about eight different vitamins before I found one that didn't make me puke: I think that they were from Rainbow Light. Drink lots and lots of water.
Remember, the morning sickness is a good sign of a healthy pregnancy; it means that your hormones are working hard for you and your baby.
lays potato chips and coke.. i couldnt stand ginger ale and 7up because i threw that up, haha
Low fat, low- sugar protein bars helped me, along with low-sugar yogurt. Those were about the only things that I could keep down, and occasionally those came up too. I had extreme morning sickness and had to be given IVs on numerous occasions.
Eating small snacks often helped too.
Lettuce! No flavor but if you eat enough you wont feel like you are starving! Got me and my sisters through all of our pregnancies!!
When I had morning sickness, I always ate saltine crackers. Grammie BaRB
We were told to NOT get up in the morning until we ate a few Saltine crackers that we had placed by our bedside (wrapped) the night before. Nausea is made worse by acid in the stomach. Empty stomachs seem to go crazy with nausea, also.
I was fascinated with the other gals' daytime meal suggestions. Hope it works for all of you but also try the saltines first thing in the morning before your feet hit the floor!
I had to eat salads with bleu cheese dressing or KFC. I don't know why.LOL. (With my third baby,I had no morningsickness and ate like a little pig.)
It was so hard with the first, though. I threw up everything for a long time. Even water. It just took time and lots of salads and vanilla ice cream with hershey's chocolate syrup, too. Isn't it strange what you CAN eat? My advice would be just eat what you can and worry about the nutrition after the morning sickness goes away.
