For the upcoming cold months, a hearty bowl of soup and a side of crispy bread offers a comfort like none other. Luckily, soup is the awesome food category that allows a home cook to make a huge batch that can be frozen and scheduled into a meal plan at a later date. Soups are filling, packed with a ton of nutrients, and are suitable for the whole family. There are a lot of great recipes for all different types of soups, but truly, a home chef can be as inventive as she wants, all while cleaning out the fridge. Chop up some leftover protein, use excess veggies (frozen or fresh), add in a grain, some spices, and keep this all on the stovetop until it's is cooked thorough. Boom: chef status.

The Instant Pot craze seems to still be going -- its Facebook group is growing and growing. And while it does promise miracles, not everyone has the room in their kitchen for another appliance. It's a great tool to be able to use for quick meals, but it doesn't always promise simplicity when there are several steps involved. Luckily, there are plenty of recipes that are so simple, all one has to do is throw a bunch of ingredients into a pot and voila!

Save time and the trouble of preparing and cooking a multi-step complicated recipe. Soups -- without an Instant Pot -- can be ready pretty quickly, too! Get the whole family involved to make it a fun activity that everyone can feel they made a contribution towards. For those with little kids, make sure they know just how important the job of toasting the bread really is so they can play a vital role in the dinner process.
