Waiter Gets an Unexpected Surprise From Group of 13-Year-Olds Who Left Him a Bad Tip

Being a waiter or waitress can be tough. If you've ever held a customer-service position in your life then you've probably had at least one negative experience when it came to receiving a -- for lack of a better way to put it -- shitty tip. Nothing can leave a bad taste in your mouth faster than this. But for waiter and Imgur user Seminole, a bad tip actually turned into a kind surprise.

  • On Imgur, he shared a note left for him by a group of 13-year-olds whom he had previously waited on after their homecoming -- and who had left him a poor tip of $3.28 at the time.

According to the note, the post-homecoming meal had been one of the first times the 13-year-olds had eaten out by themselves, and Seminole had been more than a fine waiter to them. In fact, they thanked him for being "the best waiter we could ask for."

  • They also apologized for having no idea how to properly tip at the end of the meal -- which, Seminole admitted in his Imgur post, had left him feeling "frustrated."

When later realizing their mistake, the kids felt "horrible," and knew they had to right their wrong. Enclosed in the letter was a proper 18 percent tip and a whole lot of feels.

"I've been serving a long time, and nothing like this has ever happened to me, or anyone," Seminole wrote on Imgur. "I don't know how you learned or educated yourself on tipping, but I really appreciate the effort and kindness."

  • Commenters on Imgur were in awe over how "beautifully composed" the kids' letter was.

It made the glaciers around my heart melt a little.

  • Another user wrote what we were all thinking: "Someone's parents are doing a good job."

  • Hopefully, other folks -- both young and old -- follow the lead of these kids!
