9 Reasons Halloween Beats Christmas Any Day

As a child, I woke up on Christmas morning with total excitement and joy, but it completely paled in comparison to what I felt on Halloween. While of course Christmas is full of presents and cookies and joyous merry-making, it is also synonymous with stress.

The inexplicable amount of pressure to make this holiday "magical" strips away a lot of the joy. From money woes to extended family stress, the commercialization of Christmas visibly tainted this holiday for me, and frankly, to this day I find it hard to take much joy in it.

Halloween, on the other hand, is the utter opposite. Halloween poses no pressure whatsoever -- you're free to be literally whatever you want, with whoever you want, AND you get to eat all the candy.

If you still aren't convinced, here are 9 valid reasons why Halloween kicks Christmas's butt.

  • 1. Halloween is MUCH more community oriented than Christmas.

Sure, Christmas is, in theory, all about peace and goodwill toward man, but how much time do you really spend with your neighbors? On Halloween, you're literally taking your kids to their doorstep, making small talk, and hanging out with other parents.

  • 2. You get to visit farms. Lots of them.

For those of us who don't live on a farm, the novelty of visiting one is magical. The food! The animals! The pumpkins! What's not to love?

  • 3. Costumes

Seriously, when else can you dress up as a unicorn or your favorite celebrity without judgment? Never, that's when.

  • 4. You get to spend time with your friends ... and skip the family drama.

Uncle Frank isn't going to spoil Halloween with his crazy political points of view, and Aunt Carol isn't going to drunkenly remind you of how single you are. Just sayin'.

  • 5. The decorations are so much more fun.

Just LOOK at the creative potential.

  • 6. Two words: PUMPKIN. BEER.

  • 7. I don't care how basic it is, pumpkin spice lattes are everything.

    Get in my belly.

  • 8. The movies are incredible.

And not just the horror movies. Hocus Pocus, The Nightmare Before Christmas ... the list practically doesn't end.

  • 9. Your pets get in costumes -- and who doesn't love that?

You can't argue with a cat pirate.

And if you still aren't convinced, don't stress it. Christmas will be here before you know it.
