Forget heading to the colonel -- with this ultra-satisfying recipe, you can stuff your face from the comfort of your own home. And we may be a little biased, but we think that it really needs to become a national dish (somewhere). It's crispy. It's crunchy. It's savory. And after a long day at the office, it's exactly what we're craving.

Should you happen to have a love/hate relationship with cooking fried chicken (that hot oil can be killer), this one is for you.

"Oven-fried" chicken gives the appearance of the traditional fried chicken without all of the craziness (and oil spatters!) involved. In fact, it actually takes less time to make, which is perfect for any mom on the go.

This easy recipe will totally be a hit for your kiddos.

30-Minute "Oven-Fried" Chicken Strips (adapted from the recipe on BettyCrocker.com)

Ingredients

  • 7 Skinless boneless chicken thighs, cut in strips
  • Cooking spray
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 2 tablespoons paprika
  • 2 tablespoons parsley flakes
  • 1/2 tablespoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 tablespoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 egg
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Other items you'll need

  • Cooking spray (or extra olive oil)
  • Foil
  • Baking sheet
  • Freezer bag

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a baking sheet with tin foil, and lightly coat with cooking spray.

2. Stir egg inside a mixing bowl. Season with salt and pepper. Set aside.

3. In a large freezer bag, combine flour, paprika, ground cumin, and cayenne pepper. Seal and shake to mix well.

4. Coat each piece of chicken into the egg mixture, and add to the bag of flour and spices. Once done, seal the freezer bag and shake until all pieces of chicken have a good coating of flour on them.

5. Place flour-coated chicken strips on the baking sheet (leave at least an inch of space between them), and bake for 20 minutes, flipping the strips at the 10-minute mark.

6. Remove from the oven and let sit for 5-10 minutes, and serve with your favorite condiments and sides!
