Just because you can use Girl Scout cookies in recipes doesn't mean you should use Girl Scout cookies in recipes. At least, according to the people at my dinner table.
Everyone loves Girl Scout cookies. The cookies are delicious, the Girl Scouts are an amazing organization -- what's not to love? Which is why I (stupidly) assumed making an entire dinner out of Girl Scout cookies would be the best idea ever.
Spoiler alert: it wasn't.
The first recipe I created was this Shortbread Oven-Fried Chicken recipe using Trefoils. Everyone loves chicken, and with spices plus a shortbread cookie crust, how bad could it be? My chicken looked perfectly lovely, and I assumed this would be a hit.

My daughter, the youngest kid in my family, said:
Cookies and chicken are good separately but they just don't go together.
She wouldn't even finish her one small piece.
My middle son said:
Mom, why do you hate me? Why would you make me put this in my mouth?
My college student took one bite and exclaimed:
This is the food that Elf eats.
Which was a pretty accurate description. The texture was fine but the chicken had this weirdly saccharine aftertaste that made me want to cry.
But then the funny thing is, my college student kept eating it. And no, he wasn't stoned. He said that it sort of grew on him.
The next thing I made was Samoas Curry Arancini, and we shall never, ever speak of it again. This is the Voldemort of recipes. Let's just pretend this never happened. But pro tip? Cookies, chocolate, coconut, curry, and basil just don't go together, ever.
I'm happy to report that none of my family members moved out after this.

The last thing I made was basically a gimme, a Thin Mint Milkshake.
Everyone happily consumed this and declared it delicious. Well, except my college kid, who was a bit more critical:
This is good. I mean, it's not changing my life. You know what did change my life? You know how last night I came home at 4 a.m. and saw those bands? Well, in between waiting, we went to Steak 'n' Shake and I had the best thing ever, which was a Nutella milkshake, and that was basically one of the best things I have ever had in my life, so this isn't as good as that. I mean, don't get me wrong. This is good and thanks for making it, but it's not as good as the Nutella milkshake, which was basically a million times better than this.
So there you go. Three boxes of cookies later and now all I want is a Nutella milkshake.
