6 Homemade Gluten-Free Sweets All Kids Will Love (PHOTOS)

It’s hard to find a homemade treat that will please all of the kids under your roof, let alone find the time to make said treat. Add to that the task to keep the treat gluten-free and, well, you’d think you would have to be some sort of baking superhero. Good thing we’ve dusted off our capes and found six yummy, gluten-free treats you can make at home. Trust us: they are so good, they’ll be gone faster than you can say “Holy Cupcake, Batman!”

  • Heavenly Chocolate Chip Cookie Mounds

    There’s nothing better than dipping a chocolate chip cookie in that milk. To make these delectable bites, stir together one cup of almond butter, 1/4 teaspoon of coarse salt, 1/2 cup of light brown sugar, two eggs, and one cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips until blended together. Scoop the batter in small mounds on a lined cookie sheet and bake them for 10 minutes at 350 degrees. 

  • Chocolate-Dipped Strawberries

    This treat is not only gluten-free, the kids will be eager to help you make it. Wash a pound of strawberries, leaving the stem on. Put some gluten-free chocolate chips in a microwave safe bowl, and heat at 50%-60% power until melted. Let the kids dip the strawberries into the chocolate, and place on a parchment-lined cookie sheet. Stash in the fridge until the chocolate sets. So simple, and adds a bit of panache to any play date. 

  • Old Fashioned Chocolate Fudge Ice Pop

    Sure, the ice cream man has a cool truck, all blinged out with that sticks-in-your-head jingle-y tune, but you can recreate his popular treat at home any time. All you need to do is blend one 14-ounce can of coconut milk, two to three bananas, one tablespoon of cocoa powder, and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla, then pour the mixture into ice-pop molds and freeze until solid. 

  • Rainbow Fruit Kabobs

    Kids go ga-ga over anything on a stick. For a fast and fun treat, thread berries, melon, kiwi, and other colorful fruits onto wooden skewers. Easy-peasy, and such a crowd-pleaser.

  • Slow-Cooker Fudge

    Okay, the words “slow cooker” and “fudge” don’t usually go together, but how awesome is it when they do? Take two and a half cups of gluten-free chocolate chips, 1/3 of a can of coconut milk, two teaspoons of peppermint extract, and a dash of salt, and mix it all together. Pour the mixture into your slow cooker, cook on low for two hours, then uncover the pot, and let it cook for another hour. Stir well (add mix-ins like nuts or crushed gluten-free Chex cereal if you like), pour the gooey loveliness into a baking dish, and refrigerate for a few hours or until completely set. Cut the fudge into pieces and serve. Sigh…we know…you’re welcome.
