Elsa Birthday Cake Gone Terribly Wrong Horrifies Moms Everywhere (PHOTO)

elsa cake redditUPDATE: In the time since this "nightmarish Elsa cake" hit Reddit, we've learned further details that have us feeling sheepish about being so quick to judge. The cake was made by Icing Smiles, a nonprofit organization where volunteers bake cakes for families whose kids have been diagnosed with critical illnesses, reports Redbook.

As it turned out, the child who received this Frozen-themed dessert absolutely loved it.

Baker Shawna McGreevy, who designed the original Elsa cake, took to Facebook to respond, and her post sums up the story beautifully:

I'm being asked by... everyone, what I think about the recent posts/articles about my Elsa cake and another baker's Elsa...

If you’ve been invited to a child’s birthday party in the last two years, there is probably at least a 75 percent chance that you’ve been to a party with a Frozen theme. Perhaps there has even been a Frozen-themed cake.

But chances are that you’ve never seen a cake quite like the one shown here! This photo was recently posted by Reddit user OfficialBigHead:

On the left, the cake that was ordered, inspired by a photo from the children's section of the bakery that designed the scary cake, McGreevy Cakes. On the right? What OfficialBigHead's baker ended up, err, creating.

Although OfficialBigHead didn’t offer any commentary on this cake fail -- does anyone else think it looks like Nene Lekes? Just me? -- thousands weighed in on the Reddit thread with comments both hilarious and profound.

For example, Reddit user ViciousPuddin noted:

The sad thing is, as horrific as it looks, someone put serious time into making that cake. Every misshapen blob, every terrifying curve and flourish. There are hours and hours of terrible craftsmanship here.

While some called the cake "Elsa the Hutt," Reddit user Mrjontits wondered, "Does the purchase price include 3 free counseling visits for the kids at the party?"

And GentlemenBehold, speaking for everyone who has ever been unpleasantly surprised on a first date, noted that the difference between the picture and reality was “pretty much how my online dating has gone.”

Finally, Azozel, posed a very important question:

Why would anyone want to cut into the head of something that looks like a person anyway? "Here kids, stab your favorite character in the eye and eat it!" I have 2 girls, if the cake looked like the one on the left, we'd never never eat it.

I personally can't imagine serving either cake to a group of kids. There is something creepy about eating something with a face, even if that face does like like a bad wax figure of a reality star!

Poor Elsa. She really looks like she's let herself go in this ultimate cake fail.

What would you do if you ordered an Elsa cake ... and got this instead?
