I'm sure by now you've heard the story about the New Jersey supermarket bakery that refused to write the full name of 3-year-old "Adolf Hitler Campbell" on a birthday cake. The store considered the request inappropriate even though "Adolf Hitler" is the child's given name.
CafeMoms already have a lot to say about the controversy. Moms in Toddler Daily Buzz are talking about it, too. What do you think?

What a nice thing to do to your kid. I think I'll name my next one Joseph Stalin just so I can get mad at people for not liking the name. While I don't think that it is right for the supermarket to refuse to make the cake its rather cruel of the parents to name their child that in the first place.
I think there is something wrong with the parents for naming a child that... completely ridiculous. I have to agree with the bakery. Adolf Campbell would have been all I would write. If the family wanted his full name they can ordera plain cake, buy a frosting bag and tips and write it themselves.
Honestly I think the store did the right thing. The parent's could have simply asked for Happy Birthday Adolf but they made it a point to request the full name. I'm sure the store offered to still write it with the first name only. I know for a fact the store offered to leave it Blank so the family could write the name on it themselves. The family is also intentionally naming their other kids names associated with hatred and bigotry such as "Aryan Nation". No doubt the only reason they even asked "non-white" kids to the party was to tout their "superiority" over them. The father is clearly a racist, bigoted idiot affiliated with white supremacy and probably didn't even complete highschool. Sometimes I SWEAR there should be requirements that need to be met before people are allowed to breed or at least have prohibitions on certain names!
that poor kid shouldnt suffer not having a birthday cake because his parents are asses..shame on the bakery for allowing his parents to get the negative response that they wanted by naming thier poor kid that in the first place....
Punish the parents, not the kid
I think they did the right thing. They can refuse business/service to ANYONE (just like any other business). And imo, this is a good reason.
This is the first I have heard about this incident, and I can't tell you how disgusted I am about it. Your name is with you for your entire life, and for parents to name their child for an icon of hatred and racial supremecy is outrageous. I know it is their right to name their child as they choose, but geez... someone needs to knock some sense into these people.
After reading the article, I am convinced that the father is blatantly lying when he says they chose that name for the child "because he liked the name and no one else would have it", considering the middle name of one of their other children is Aryan Nation.
Not to mention this little tidbit: "Karen Meleta, a ShopRite spokeswoman, said the store denied similar requests from the Campbells the last two years, including a request for a swastika." I guess the parents just think the swastika is a neat little design too?
The only good thing is that at age 18 those poor children can legally change their names and remove the hatred. Hopefully the parents won't have instilled too much hatred in their hearts.
thank goodness for name changes... if you dont like it, you can change it... i think if your a minor and you dont like it, you can sue your parents and go to the court and get your name changed.
Yeah, these kids could change their name when they're 18, but by then they're going to be filled with hate and racism so they're probably be proud of their names. Those parents are racial morons (IMO) who say they did not think that their children's names would cause trouble. BULLS%!T! They KNOW what those names mean and where they come from. They say they are not racist, but don't thinkt he races should mix. Isn't that a definition of RACIST!? *sigh* I feel sorry for those children when they get in school. And I think the supermarket TRIED to work with the parents by offering a blank cake, the parents just wanted to stir up trouble, which is exactly what they did.
