Booze at Starbucks Is a Venti Bad Idea

When you go to Starbucks, what are you looking for? A coffee? A tea? A scone? A travel mug? A protein plate or a CD? Maybe a free place to pee? Whatever your reason, odds are, you're not stopping into the quaint little coffee shop for booze, right? 'Cause that just feels wrong. But, alas, Starbucks is now branching out their wine and beer menu -- known as Starbucks Evenings -- across the pond to the UK, which, for whatever reason, seems more fitting over there than over here. Call me a naysayer, but I just can't get behind the idea of drinking at a place I associate with morning time. And I can drink just about anywhere.

In case you haven't heard, Starbucks Evenings are only available at a few locations, and basically they're just spots that start serving beer, wine, and some fancy foodstuffs at around 4. But, think about it: How weird would it be to go out for a glass of vino ... at Starbucks? I dislike.

More From The Stir: Booze at Starbucks Makes Afternoon Coffee Run More Interesting

It isn't that I think Starbucks will be serving jank beers and wines. I mean, if there's one thing they know, it's beverages. But, Starbucks, as an imbibing location, is just weird. It's where we run into when we're freshly showered and off to work. Or where we go in the middle of a rainy day to tool around on the Internet and drink a latte. It's just about the last place that comes to mind at 5:00 when it's quittin'/cocktail time. We go to bars for that. Or, if you have kids, more likely, home.

I don't doubt that Starbucks will have success with this endeavor, as the coffee company seems to be incapable of doing any wrong. But, I, for one, won't be ducking into my local Buckys to tie one on. Something about it just feels wrong.

What do you think about Starbucks serving booze?
