What New 'Bacon-Wrapped Pizza' Will Cost You (In Calories)

Yesterday, Little Caesar's announced its new big menu item: Bacon-Wrapped Crust Pizza. That's right: Three-and-a-half feet of thick-cut crispy bacon wound around an eight-corner deep dish pizza, which is then topped with pepperoni and more "bacon goodness." If your mouth is already watering, good! That will help you burn some calories, because if you want to eat this, you will seriously need to.

Don't you love how nobody who works at fast food companies ever seems to follow health research? It's like they subscribe to the Bizarro News that has headlines like, "More Fat and Sodium Will Help You Lose Weight!" and "Calories: Just a Myth."

(All of which they read, of course, over their delicious breakfast of bacon-wrapped pizza.)

Little Caesar's new menu item will become available Feb. 23, and at $12 plus tax, it's one of the most expensive items on the pizza (pizza!) chain's menu. But that's not all you'll be paying for. Eating this delicious salt-bomb of a monstrosity is going to set you back big-time healthwise.

Or, more specifically, about 450 calories. Um, per slice. To burn that off, you'd need to walk 125 minutes or jog for nearly an hour.

But let's be honest here. Who really ever eats just one piece of pizza?

To that end, let's say you indulge in two deliciously bacon-wrapped slices. For the same amount of calories (900), you could eat all of the following instead:

1 cup whole-grain cereal topped with 1 cup skim milk and 1/2 banana

1/2 cup whole-grain pasta with 1/2 cup of chickpeas and 1/2 cup of steamed veggies, tossed with 1 T. basalmic vinaigrette

1/8 of a homemade turkey meatloaf with veggies and 8-9 sweet potato fries

..and still have about 100 calories left over to use on a snack.

In other words, two slices of this pizza = most of your day's calories. Do we even need to talk about the fat, sodium, and cholesterol you're also getting?

We don't know about you, but that kind of makes us lose our appetite. Where can we subscribe to the Bizarro News?

Are you going to try bacon-wrapped pizza?
