Yummy Apple Cinnamon Squares Are a Perfect Post-Apple Picking Treat

There are so many things to love about autumn! One of my favorites is the abundance of apples. It's so much fun to pick them at your local orchard or grab a bag of the season's best at your grocery store. 

But sometimes I have a tendency to overdo it. Rather than see the versatile fruit go to waste, I begin baking up a storm. 

My ultimate go-to, never-fail apple recipe comes from my mom. Whenever we make these delicious apple cinnamon squares and share them, we're always asked for the recipe. Bonus: They can be ready in under 40 minutes!

1/2 cup butter (melted)

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup white sugar

1 egg

1 tsp vanilla

1 cup flour

1 tsp baking powder

1/4 tsp salt

1/4 tsp cinnamon

1/2 cup finely diced apples

1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Directions: Melt butter. Stir in sugars, egg, and vanilla with wooden spoon. Mix in flour and other dry ingredients until thoroughly combined. Spread into a buttered 8x8 pan. 

Sprinkle the top lightly with cinnamon-sugar, if desired. 

Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 minutes.
