Prego Tomato Sauce Recalled: We Have All the Details

spaghettiIf you're looking for quick, easy, post-holiday dinner ideas, there's one dish you may want to reconsider: Spaghetti. Campbell's Soup Company just announced that they are voluntarily recalling 300 cases of Prego Traditional Italian sauce because of possible spoilage. Not delicious! The recalled food was delivered to seven states around the nation, so you'll probably want to check your pantry to make sure you're not caught with the sauce. Here's everything you need to know about this recall so you can make sure you start the New Year without upset tummies.

The recall is for 24-ounce jars of Prego Traditional Italian sauce manufactured on December 15, 2013 with an expiration date of June 16, 2015. Look for a time stamp on the lid that ranges from “CT BJ ZV 0330” to “CT BJ ZV 0449.” The sauce was sent to distribution centers in Arizona, Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, and Oklahoma.

If you happen to have a jar of these tomatoes, simply return it to the store where you bought it for a refund. Do not eat it. (I mean, obviously, but just in case there was any doubt, we want to be clear about that.) No illnesses related to the recall have been reported. But then, this recall is quite new. Hopefully the news will spread quickly before anyone gets ill.

We appreciate it when a company issues a voluntary recall quickly, as in the case here. Meanwhile, if you've never made your own pasta sauce, it's pretty darn easy. Here's a slow-roasted tomato recipe, a tomato cream recipe, and a tomato gravy recipe just like your Italian grandma's -- if you had an Italian grandma.

Do you use marinara from a jar or do you make your own?

We had a jar of prego that the top was popped already when I went to open it. And we had just bought it the day before. I don't remember the exact date but it was probably before these and I'm in utah.

:-( Now I have to check my sauce. Seems like you can't eat ANYTHING anymore without risk of recall.

Prego is just unhealthy anyway. It contains WAY too much sugar. Make your own, it's cheaper, healthier and can be done in the crock pot so you can't say you don't have time.
