What would you do if you were a coffee shop barista who turned her back to get a customer's order and that customer slipped his hand in your tip jar and stole your hard-earned cash? Call the police? Curse? Vow to never turn your back again? If you're the staff at the Nervous Dog Coffee Bar in Stow, Ohio, you don't do any of the above. Instead, you start a food drive for the sticky-fingered thief!
A man was caught on surveillance cam grabbing a wad of cash out of the barista's tip jar as she turned to fill his order. But the staff decided that any man looking to steal from a lowly-paid barista was probably in worse financial trouble than they were, and probably was hungry, so they posted his mug on their Facebook site and told him they were starting a food drive for him.
They asked him to come forward and claim his food -- and he doesnt' even have to return the money. Hmmm. Sound like a sneaky way of bagging a thief?
The staff claim to be on the up-and-up, and only have concern for this "unfortunate man." I tell you, this might be a tad naive (who says he wants the money for food?), but it warms the cockles of my cold, cold heart.
This is exactly the kind of thing Jesus would want us to do for his upcoming birthday celebration. Check it out:
The staff also say that if the man isn't found, they will donate all of the food collected to a food pantry. Now this is what the holiday spirit is about!
Somehow, I doubt the man will step forward. But maybe it will also warm the cockles of his heart -- and he'll think twice about stealing in the future.
Do you think this is sweet or naive?
