As someone who couldn't bake a cake if my life depended on it, I'm in awe of people who can bake gravity-defying, life-like cakes. Like that couple's horror-fan-tastic wedding cake! These are the people who apparently enter cake baking contests, like the one being held in Birmingham, England tomorrow. The owner of Tasty Cakes, Lara Clarke of Brownshill, West Midlands, has shared her entry -- and it's pretty unbelievable. It's an almost life-size cake replica of Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean. The detail is stunningly amazeballs.
The Jack Sparrow cake is 5 feet, 5 inches tall and it took Lara 90 hours to make. It's made of crisped rice and marshmallows and decorated with edible paint, and can stand up since it's baked around pipes and stainless steel rods.
She actually started baking the cake back in September, so it's not really meant to be eaten. Past its prime. Just like Johnny. Oh JOKE!!
Seriously, this is a work of art. Johnny has a life-like glow in his eyes and a twitchy grin that looks like it's about to move!
Lara has also baked cakes of Miley Cyrus, Yoda, and the Grinch. Unfortunately, Miley is tongue-less in the below cake. Still, excellent job.
And here's her Kate Middleton, sitting on a yogurt cup.
Good luck in the contest, Lara!
Do you ever bake anything impressive?
