The insanity continues at Amy's Baking Company, the notorious Scottsdale, Arizona restaurant skewered on Gordon Ramsay's show Kitchen Nightmares. Now Amy and Samy Bouzaglo are defending themselves. Or something like that. Can you call it "defending yourself" if your attempts only serve to make you sound even crazier? Anyway, apparently they're also getting death threats -- yikes.
Amy and Samy are denying they ever ... well, take your pick. Everything they've been accused of doing, they are now denying. If only there weren't so much proof of their undeniable horribleness out there. It kind of undermines their credibility, and I would have a little trouble believing they're getting those death threats -- that is, if I didn't know the Internet as well as I do.
Amy says the aftermath of the show has taken a "huge" physical toll on her. "Over the past couple of months, we’ve gone from being completely unknown to having people call us at 3am saying they’re going to break into our house with a rifle, rape me, and kill my husband," she told the Daily Mail. Supposedly they've had to call the police and the FBI over these threats. It sounds like classic Amy exaggeration. And yet, I can totally see this happening.
As hard as it is to believe, there are people out there who are even loonier than the Bouzaglos. I'll let that sink in, because I know it's kind of mind-boggling. Crazier ... than Amy and Samy? Oh yes. Yes indeed.
Ask any blogger who writes those silly, innocent little celebrity gossip posts. (Oh, that would be ME.) Dis someone's favorite movie star and you could end up with an email, comment, or Facebook message from some nutjob threatening your life, because your opinion about said movie star really is a matter of life and death. Who are these lunatics? And why do they have access to computers and phones?
So ABC's employee contract is bonkers -- the Bouzaglos did revise it, though only after it was leaked. As for taking their servers' tips, Amy tried to rationalize that by saying it's different in Europe, blah blah blah. (Except she's not European, and neither is Scottsdale.) But they've changed their mind about that rotten policy, too. "Since the show, we recognize the outcry and now we’re giving the servers their tips." See? "It would still work out in their favor to be be paid hourly, but now they’re guaranteed to make a minimum of $7.80 an hour and we make sure they go home with more than that, 100 percent." Yeah, so that still sounds a little slippery, but it appears servers will get at least some of their tips.
Still slimy? You bet. But come on, just because you're slimy doesn't mean you deserve death threats. Amy and Samy's attackers just end up looking even more irrational than the Bouzaglos do, and that's saying a lot!
Who are the bigger nutters, the Bouzaglos or the people who threaten their lives?
